Students develop essential knowledge, attitudes and understandings across key themes and will grow to understand how they can become 21st-century learners.
Footscray Primary School's central purpose is Learning for Living. We offer an inquiry-based curriculum through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). Through the PYP, we provide opportunities for our students to understand essential concepts, skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to be life-long learners in our ever-changing world.
We aim for our students to develop confidence in their own abilities, to think for themselves, to express their opinions and to respect the opinions of others. The PYP is focused on developing international-mindedness, understanding and respect. We value the development of the whole child in all areas of learning. The students are supported and nurtured in their social and emotional development as well as in their creative, linguistic, sporting and academic programs.
We place a strong emphasis on how students learn as well as what they learn. Students learn to reflect on their learning, becoming critical thinkers with an ability to take action. Our program is designed to prepare our students to become active, caring and thinking participants contributing to a peaceful and sustainable future.
We believe that our students learn best when they are actively involved in authentic learning across all curriculum areas. We want our students to be happy and engaged learners who are eager to come to school and interact with friends and teachers from all around the world.
