A Message from the Principal

Footscray Primary School is an international school implementing the Primary Years Program. At the heart of learning is inquiry and the development of young, curious minds that have a strong desire to grow.

Hi, I'm Jen Briggs and I am incredibly proud to be the Principal of this wonderful school, Footscray Primary School. I was born and raised in the western suburbs of Melbourne and have worked throughout my career at schools in St Albans, Sunshine and Derrimut. I have a special connection to this wonderful community as my own Nanna and her siblings attended Footscray Primary School (Formerly Geelong Road State School) in the 1920s-1930s.

Footscray Primary School is such a unique and beautiful space in which to work, learn and play each day. Our heritage-listed  buildings hold so much history and many memories of the generations of students that have grown and thrived at Footscray Primary School. We are fortunate to have large green spaces and established trees for children to enjoy, which is a rarity for an inner suburban school. In 2020, our school was allocated $18.2 million to increase our capacity with new learning spaces that will be ready for the start of the 2023 school year. You can follow the progress of our design here.

I joined the FPS team in 2020 and have been blown away by the strong sense of community that we continue to grow and nurture. Schools are the hub of a community, where we come together to connect and learn. Our community is dedicated and engaged and lead many initiatives within the school and wider community.

I believe that every child has the right to learn, play and feel safe and I see my role as a school leader to be continually striving to ensure each child at Footscray Primary School experiences success academically, socially and emotionally. We lead learning through inquiry and student-driven action and ensure all students are supported to be critical thinkers, who are highly literate and numerate.

Outside of COVID times, we are always open for visitors. In the meantime, to keep our community healthy and safe please feel free to call on 9687 1910 or send me an email at jenny.briggs@education.vic.gov.au if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Jen
