The Music program at Footscray Primary School aims to develop a range of musical skills. Using the Kodaly Methodology students learn to understand the fundamentals of Music. Through singing a range of different songs, they learn how music is constructed using rhythm, melody, form, timbre, and harmony. Students also have the opportunity to experience, learn about, and play many different instruments. These include untuned percussion instruments, xylophones, metallophones, boom whackers, recorders and ukuleles. Students play songs, create their own compositions, improvise and explore expressing different emotions through music. Students also enjoy performing these pieces both in the classroom and at different school performance opportunities.
We also have a Choir which rehearses weekly and we seek to create performance opportunities for students learning an instrument privately.
Footscray Primary School acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which we live, work and learn, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nations. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, recognising their continuing cultural connections to their land, waters and communities.
