Choir Our school has two choirs, Junior and Senior, that rehearse weekly during playtimes. All students are welcome to join in and have opportunities to perform at school assemblies throughout the year, as well as at our end-of-year whole school concert in December.
Junior Choir is open to students in Foundation to Grade 2 and they rehearse on Thursdays at recess. Sessions include the development of singing voices, learning a wide variety of engaging children’s songs and playing singing games to keep the students engaged and active. Senior Choir is open to students in Grade 3 to Grade 6 and they rehearse on Fridays at recess. Members are encouraged to suggest songs they are interested in and a selection of these songs chosen for the group to learn and perform.
Engagement Groups
To support our students social and emotional learning, we run weekly Engagement Groups. Students can be referred to this program to support their friendship skills, emotional regulation and school engagement. Groups consist for four to five chosen students and run for approximately 45 minutes once a week.
During these sessions students engage in a range of hands-on activities within a structured and supportive space. These can be interest based experiences like cooking, gardening, science experiments, board games, craft etc. and incorporate play-based learning and a range of social and emotional skills. Some examples of the focus of these groups are; to support the development of interpersonal skills such as forming relationships, responding to the feelings of others and identifying and regulating our own emotions.
Art Therapy
Our students are also offered the opportunity to engage in Art Therapy. Art Therapy can be used to support wellbeing and improve mental health. This is achieved through the experience of art making and applied psychological theories. Students can be referred to this program for a range of reasons such as supporting their resilience, managing anxiety, school engagement, developing friends and regulating emotions. This approach uses a student-centred approach to address specific goals. Sessions can be run individually, pairs or small groups of up to 5 students.
